2014 David Kelly ISL Parent Volunteer of the Year
Ira Glasky, Northwood Pointe Flash
Ira Glasky is well known in the Irvine Swim League community for his stewardship of the ISL and his dedication to the swimmers of Irvine. Ira has continually gone above and beyond with his involvement and has volunteered an unparalleled number of hours over the last 11 years to both the Northwood Pointe Flash team and the Irvine Swim League at large.
Ira has fostered the growth and development of the Flash family since the first of his 2 kids joined the team 11 years ago. Both his son, Spencer, a senior at Northwood High School, and daughter Julia, a sophomore at Northwood have been enthusiastic competitors on Flash and Spencer has continued the family involvement serving as a coach for the squad the past 3 seasons.
Ira has served in many positions for the Flash over the years including President for 2 years. His willingness to mentor others in leadership positions and his availability as a defacto “officer emeritas” has helped many Flash board members and families alike. His presence is still the harbinger of summer as his voice kicks off Flash meets as announcer for the past 3 years.
Ira further served the Irvine swim community as a member of the ISL Executive Board and as ISL President for 3 years. He continues to add his support to ISL and Flash as an ardent voice for growth of the swim program.
During his time as ISL president, Ira brought the Athlete Protection Education program used by USA Swimming to league coaches, introduced online registration to the league and developed the campsite setup for Champs that we are enjoying today. He has also served as a member of the City of Irvine Aquatics Advisory Board.
He continues to help new members in leadership positions on our team and is a ready contributor and mentor to our board.
Though his children’s time in the swim community is nearing a close he continues to be an advocate for our kids as the newest elected member of the Irvine School board.
It is caring, engaged, advocates for our kids like Ira who make our community and the ISL such desirable organizations.
